Galvanized pipe replacement is one of the most common jobs I do in Upper Northwest DC. These homes were built in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. The original galvanized steel supply pipes are still in a lot of them, and they've been corroding from the inside for decades.

Galvanized pipes rust from the inside out. The rust builds up, restricts flow, and eventually the pipe fails. Low water pressure is usually the first sign. Discolored water is another. If your home was built before 1960 and you haven't had the pipes replaced, there's a good chance this is already happening.
Low Water Pressure
In NW DC's older homes, low pressure is almost always a galvanized pipe problem. I'll tell you honestly what's causing it and whether a full repipe is actually necessary or whether a targeted repair will fix it. I'm not going to sell you a full repipe if a section replacement solves the problem.
Aging Water Heaters
Most water heaters last 8 to 12 years. I work on gas, electric, and tankless units. If yours is getting close to the end, I'll give you a straight answer on whether repair makes sense or whether replacement is the better call. I install both traditional and tankless water heaters.
